FIELD GUIDE / ABOUT ROAM
A little more world,
every day.
Roam is a free daily geography quiz about flags, capital cities and country locations. Five questions, a fresh route each day, and a growing picture of the world you know.
One day. One shared quiz.
Open Roam and you land straight in the daily quiz. Everyone gets the same five questions and answer choices for the same UTC date, wherever they are playing. The quiz changes at midnight UTC.
Pick one of four answers to identify a flag, name a capital, or locate a highlighted country on the map. Feedback appears after each answer, with a fact to help you remember it. There is no timer; hints are available without a score penalty.
Use the mouse or tap an answer. On a keyboard, press 1–4 to answer and Enter to move on. You can leave an unfinished daily quiz and resume it in the same browser.
Finish. See where you stand.
Your daily score joins the comparison automatically when you finish, with no sign-in needed. The results screen shows the distribution of recorded daily scores for that same quiz, including how many results fall below, match or exceed yours.
Roam counts the first recorded result from each browser for that day and quiz version. Signing in or out does not add another result from the same browser. The sample size counts browser results, not unique people or every visitor; another device or cleared website data can create a separate entry. Practice scores never enter these totals.
The chart refreshes every 30 seconds while visible and when you return to the page. Completed daily results can be reopened from your daily log; reopening a valid saved result also records a score that was previously missing. Practice has its own round recap and a Practise again button. Daily comparisons appear only on daily results.
Watch your world grow.
Your learning path starts with six countries. Two correct answers light up a skill: flags, capitals or locations. Learn two eligible skills for a country and two more countries unlock. Guided practice focuses on the countries and skills you are learning.
The daily quiz and free practice stay open to the full eligible collection. Progress on the question screen is shown as totals, so country names in your learning path cannot give away the answer.
Earn 10 XP for a correct answer and 3 XP for trying. Complete a daily quiz to build your streak. Your daily log shows completed days and scores; My progress keeps your learning history together.
In Practice, focus on flags, capitals or maps, narrow your region, or revisit missed questions. Use the Atlas to explore country facts and capital notes at your own pace.
Your progress, your browser.
Can I try answering from memory?
In Practice, choose Recall first. Type flag and capital answers, with accents and small spelling slips accepted, or select countries on an unlabelled, zoomable map. You can reveal four choices for typed questions or a region hint for map questions. Results show how many answers you knew without help. The shared daily quiz keeps its four-choice format.
Can I help improve the game?
Roam also counts visits, page views and traffic sources automatically using a temporary random identifier in this tab’s session storage. It renews after 30 minutes without a recorded page view or at a new UTC date. Only a hash is stored on the server, along with the date, page section, referring hostname and bounded campaign source/medium labels. Full referring URLs, search terms, IP addresses, names and email addresses are not included in this traffic feature. Traffic tracking respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. Reports include up to 90 UTC dates; expired records are removed in bounded batches during new traffic. The hosting service may process normal request information separately.
Optional play statistics are off until you opt in. Sharing records round counts, format, help usage, answers counted as correct, completion and return activity. A random browser token connects rounds; the server stores only a hash of that token. Typed answers, names, email addresses and IP addresses are not included in this measurement feature. No measurement identifier is created and no measurement requests are sent before consent.
Turn sharing off and request deletion in Privacy. New sharing stops immediately; if deletion fails, it can be retried while sharing remains off. Successful deletion removes your measurement activity and keeps only a token hash with a 90-day expiry to prevent late requests from another tab from restoring it. That hash is removed during subsequent cleanup. Local learning progress and shared daily scores are separate and stay unchanged.
The site owner’s private dashboard offers 7, 30 and 90 UTC date windows, with separate traffic, daily results and opted-in activity sections. Aggregate HTML snapshots and JSON exports can be saved locally. Activity older than 90 days is excluded; expired records and opt-out hashes are removed in limited batches as new measurements arrive. Without new activity, expired records can remain in storage until cleanup runs.
The report counts opted-in browsers, not individual people or every visitor. Players choose their practice format, so this is a self-selected trial, not a randomized A/B test. Differences between formats do not prove that one causes better learning. There are no third-party analytics trackers; hosting providers may process ordinary connection logs separately.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to play, track progress in this browser, add your daily score to the comparison or delete this browser’s shared scores.
Will my stats follow me to another device?
Learning progress, streaks and practice history are stored in this browser. They do not sync between devices, even when signed in. Clearing website data or resetting progress removes the local record. You can export a copy from My progress.
What is stored for comparisons?
Your browser sends the five daily answers so the server can check the quiz and calculate your score. It retains only the score, quiz date, quiz version, timestamp and a hash of a random browser token. Raw answers, names and email addresses are not retained for comparisons. Other players see aggregate results. This token is separate from optional play-statistics measurement.
Use Privacy in the game footer to delete this browser’s shared scores without signing in. Deleting shared scores leaves local learning progress intact. A deletion marker prevents old saved results and delayed requests through that UTC date from restoring the scores; future daily quizzes can add new results. Your detailed practice history stays local, and optional measurement shares only the counters described above.
Does Roam have ads or paid features?
Roam currently has no advertisements, paid subscriptions, donation link or payment collection. Daily play, practice and score comparisons are free.
A map is a starting point.
The atlas covers 195 countries: 193 United Nations member states, Vatican City and Palestine. Our simplified map may omit very small countries; these are excluded from map questions. Capital cities and national symbols sometimes need context, so ambiguous cases are qualified or excluded from the relevant quiz type.
Country records were reviewed on 9 October 2026. The game’s Sources panel includes editorial references and licence details. Map boundaries are educational references, not a statement on sovereignty.
